Dear Viewers,

My art, a combination of traditional printmaking techniques and digital processes voices my concern for the spirit of the next generation of women who will be taking their places as adults in the "golden age" of information. It depicts snapshots of stories involving eccentric women protagonists. I draw from myths, legends, my own character defects as well as traits I admire in others to create these unusual heroines.

My hope is that if young girls can align themselves with such heroines and see themselves in the eccentricities of a character they will be able to see themselves in the adventure that is their own life. The thing I admire most about the process of creating any sort of art is that that it is capable of being nonsensical and while still voicing an undeniable truth.

I combine a good deal of nonsense, perils, heroics and whimsy into my art as a hope that such a blend acts as a formula for activating a young girl's bravery. In the informational age our young women do not have the luxury of ignorance, thus for them to embark on their own adventurous, compassionate lives they need to be even more brave than their mothers and grandmothers. Truly I feel it is our responsibility as women and as artists to try and give them all the bravery we can scrape up.

Equally Yours,

Sarah Bernstein
